FAQ - Building Cost Estimating Questions

In most cases, no. Cost estimations are based on a variety of factors and the costs relevant to your project will differ from those stated herein.

Prices listed are from Inco Steel Buildings, Inc.

The square foot price listed was derived by dividing the final job production costs (all expenses) by the square footage area for that job description, renovation project or newly constructed building.

Finish and close the job. Total all expenses to produce the job and divide total costs by the square footage of either the buildable area, or the square footage of the repaired area.

While some DIYers may be able to save money if they have proficient skill levels, most reports show that all of these costs will be affected and modified predictably by economies of scale, job sizes, wholesale purchases, and preferred pricing that most builders receive due to volume purchasing week-after-week. The cost of completing the same project by a DIY self-contractor is often higher than that of a professional contractor.

You should not use these square feet numbers from another job; you should use the specific numbers for your project.

Before seeking financing, we recommend that you get a comprehensive written quote based on your proposed construction project.

The quote should contain all Inclusions and all Exclusions spelled out clearly, the contract price, the entire Work Description, the material specifications and the labor specifications. The warranty, along with other contract terms and conditions, the builder’s responsibilities, and the customer’s responsibilities and the payment schedule.

FYI: The lender wants to work with a prepared client, and with a written quote they get to see the entire proposal, articles, terms, pricing and other details that are typically included in a professional detailed estimate.

Certainly they work for estimating price ranges, but not for building budgets, borrowing money, or determining whole costs when purchasing land or property
